Welcome to the Website of Red Rock Yacht Club

Lake Red Rock is situated 55 miles southeast of Iowa's capital city, Des Moines, just a few miles from the well known Dutch community of Pella and the Sprint Car Capital in Knoxville. Formed by a man-made dam on the Des Moines River, the lake itself covers 19,000 acres on a 50,000 acre expanse of public land at normal pool. Excellent camping, hiking, lodging, and launching facilities are available around the lake. Rental slips are available at Red Rock Marina for an overnight stay or for the entire season.

(Click for larger view.)Red Rock Yacht Club has been around since 1977 and is open to all who have an interest in boating at Lake Red Rock. The club constructed a shelter in 2000 and maintains it as its primary meeting place and for public use near the Red Rock Marina on the north shore. With a full schedule of sailboat racing, social gatherings, other boating related activities, and the annual Iowa Interlakes Regatta, the club offers something for everyone using the lake, whether they are just in for a short visit or are looking for a permanent home for their vessel.

Look around the site. If you need further information or if you'd like some help planning a visit to Lake Red Rock, please feel free to contact one of the club's officers by clicking the Club Officers link in the left navigation panel.  You are welcome to visit us anytime! With some dramatic changes in the operation of the marina and improvements in Marina Cove, we are looking forward to an exciting boating season in 2013. LET'S GO BOATING!

2014 Season Kickoff Party

The frigid grip of winter is almost gone. Warm weather means the long list of boat projects has moved to the front burner.

Curt, John and the Marina staff are helm to weather, getting ready for the season.  What better reason to have a party?  Sailors grab your mate, hearty crew, friends or family, for the season opening event.

Tie off your bow lines at the Peace Tree Brewing Company and event center in Knoxville.

Red Rock Yacht Club has been an association of sailing enthusiasts and boaters of all types for more than 35 years. Promoting boating and social activities has always been important to the members.  Having an active organized voice for boaters can make a difference in future developments with the lake, the Army Corps, the present owner of the marina (Grinnell State Bank), and potential new owners.

This will be a time to mingle with other Red Rock boaters and the marina staff.  We have plans for several more social activities this summer along with a sailboat race or two if any skippers are interested.

Sign up and renew or become a member of Red Rock Yacht Club.  Annual dues are only $25.00.  You can get a head start by clicking on the Join Our Club link to the left.  You can help keep the club working for your interests. Our discussion forums, personal photos, and other items are not available to the general public, so you members must click the Login link at the top of the navigation panel to have access to the entire site. Won't you join us?

No New Mandatory PFD Requirement at Red Rock

Based upon customer input/response on PFD wear, Colonel McGinley, Commander of the COE, Rock Island District, has concurred with Red Rock Manager Sherri Duey's recommendation for no new mandatory PFD wear. There will be no new mandatory PFD requirement at Red Rock this year.

The Rock Island District of the Corps of Engineers, is part of the Mississippi Valley Division. Division leadership is very interested in water safety and will continue to evaluate water safety requirements at all Corp's projects within the division.
